Two graduating seniors have been awarded journalism scholarships by THE NATOMAS BUZZ.

LeeAnne Carter

Both Natomas-area students worked as interns for the online newspaper during the 2012-13 school year.

Inderkum graduate LeeAnne Carter, of south Natomas, interned for THE NATOMAS BUZZ as a junior during the 2011-12 school year writing about a variety of topics, most notably UFO sightings adjacent to Interstate 5.

Carter agreed to intern again for the site in early 2013 after three other interns from Inderkum resigned from their posts midyear. She plans to be a teacher and will be major in Liberal Studies at Chico State starting in the fall.

Sara Dixon

“It was such a great experience for her,” mom Peggy Carter said. “She learned a lot and it pushed her a bit outside her comfort zone interviewing people she had never met.”

Natomas High graduate Sara Dixon, also of south Natomas, interned for THE NATOMAS BUZZ as a senior. Dixon worked with NHS intern Ojaswi Adhikari, a junior, on several articles throughout the school year. She will attend UC Berkeley in the fall and has yet to declare a major.

This is the second year THE NATOMAS BUZZ has awarded $100 journalism scholarships to select “buzz worthy” interns upon their graduation.

Natomas Pacific Pathways graduate Emily Mibach received the first scholarship in June 2012. Mibach is now studying journalism at Mills College, where she is the new features editor of the school newspaper “The Campanil,” and will be interning again with THE NATOMAS BUZZ during the summer months.

THE NATOMAS BUZZ offers internship opportunities to area high school and college students in an effort to provide learning opportunities and teach best practices in journalism. For information about internships with THE NATOMAS BUZZ, write us at [email protected].
