Seen in Natomas: Happy Birthday Portrait

THE NATOMAS BUZZ | @natomasbuzz

Kiana Jasmyne Santos normally paints on canvass, but has wanted to try her hand at mural painting ever since the Wide Open Walls public art festival took off in 2016.

When Santos learned recently that anyone can paint on the “Authors of Our Own Destiny” in Natomas at anytime, she decided to paint a portrait of fiancé Antonio Moran for his birthday. The pair graduated from Inderkum High School —  Santos in 2010 and Moran in 2009 — and have two children (who helped sign the mural).

A mural is artwork painted directly on a wall or other permanent surface and incorporates the architectural elements into the picture.

Authors of Our Own Destiny is located on Del Paso Road adjacent to the American River College satellite campus and North Natomas Library. This interactive public art installation can be painted on by anyone, at anytime, no reservations or approval required before hand. Check out more previous paintings here.
