In The News: Goodwill Finds A New Home

The Sac Bee over the weekend reported Goodwill Industries will locate a new thrift store at the old Tower Records site at Watt and El Camino avenues.

An excerpt:

Negotiations have fallen through for a store at another site in Natomas.

That 15,000-square-foot site was originally occupied by a Borders bookstore that closed last year. After plans about Goodwill occupying the store were revealed, neighbors of the shopping center, at 4650 Natomas Blvd., protested in online blogs.

Points of clarification: Borders closed early THIS year and while we agree there was a lot of online activity around the proposal to locate Goodwill in North Natomas, not ALL blogging was in protest. (Life and Living in the Big Tomato posted this article and Joe Sacramento posted this one.)

The Bee’s article cites a Goodwill official as not knowing “why lease negotiations fell through” at the Natomas site. We think NATOMAS BUZZ readers have an idea…

Oddly enough, the article was posted online in the Bee’s obituaries section.

  1. I still think the witch hunt to oust the prospective Goodwill tenant was a travesty.

Crown Books is a big empty room with a few books. No jobs, no customers, no big deal.
