Organizing an event can be a daunting task for most adults, maybe even more so for a high school student.

But Natomas High junior Ashley Hubbard, 16, has stepped up to the challenge by planning the school’s annual “Battle of the Bands” contest being held tomorrow night.

“It was a very exciting experience to work with bands,” said Hubbard. “And it was fun being a part of the backstage crew.”

This is Hubbard’s first year in the Natomas High drama club, which hosts the annual band battle. She’s been an active participant in school plays including those held by the club before taking on this year’s “Battle of the Bands.”

Some of her tasks leading up to the popular musical event include band recruitment, advertising and management.

The event tomorrow night will feature entertainment by students and local bands.

“I am quite comfortable on stage and I’m very excited about the upcoming event,” said Natomas High junior John Marcelino, a  16-year-old lead guitarist and vocalist for band Post Mortem.

“Battle of the Bands” will be held 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 in the Natomas High School theater, 3301 Fong Ranch Road.

Cost for Battle of the Bands is $5 general admission and $3 for students with ASD cards. The event is open to the public.
