New Natomas Fire Station Online

The city’s newest fire station went into service today in Natomas.
The opening of Fire Station No. 43, located on El Centro Road, has long been anticipated by north-area residents living west of Interstate 5. Emergency signal lights adjacent to the fire station were turned on over the weekend and fire equipment could be seen through the windows prior to today’s launch.

The new fire station houses an engine company which is staffed by four personnel. The addition of Fire Station No. 43 brings the total number of active fire stations to 24.

According to Councilwoman Angelique Ashby, the station’s second call for service today – just two hours after it was put into service – was for a person at a nearby senior apartment complex who fell into a swimming pool.

Fire personnel arrived on the scene 2 minutes and 15 seconds from being dispatched, to find that the 50-year-old female had already been pulled out of the water and was receiving CPR by bystanders. The patient was transported to a local hospital by fire department paramedics and by the time the medic unit arrived at the hospital, the woman was breathing on her own.

“The response time was just over two minutes and the victim will be fine,” Ashby posted on her Facebook page. “Without Station 43 response would have been well over triple in length and the outcome could have been substantially different.”

An open-house event is scheduled for Sept. 17.
“Your engine is in service now, on time and under budget,” Ashby wrote. “We will celebrate soon!”
