Shajia Ayobi faces a possible life sentence for the December 2011 murder of her husband.

District Attorney Jan Scully announced Wednesday that Ayobi was convicted by jury of first degree murder and that the jury found an arming allegation to be true.

On Dec. 18, 2011 Sacramento police officers responded to a call of a male shot on Interstate 80 at Norwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Ghulam Ayobi who had been shot in the upper body. He was transported to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Shajia Ayobi originally told officers she and her husband were victims of a carjacking attempt and that the pair were driving from the area of San Juan Road and Torland Street in Natomas when her husband was shot by a suspect hiding in the vehicle.

A month later, on Jan. 19, 2012, police detectives re-interviewed Ayobi and she was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail.

Ayobi faces a maximum possible sentence of 26 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for June 14 in Sacramento Superior Court.
