The Gardenland Northgate Neighborhood Association will meet 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 12 at Stanford Settlement.
Mayor Kevin Johnson’s chief of staff Kunal Merchant is scheduled to speak on the “Checks and Balances Act of 2012,” a proposal to restructure city government and give the mayor more oversight on day-to-day operations, previously referred to as the “Strong Mayor” initiative.
Mayor Johnson, who is running for re-election in 2012, recently held a town hall meeting as part of his campaign at the Comcast offices in Natomas where he spoke at length about the why he favors the change he said would promote higher standards for ethics and transparency as well as create an independent redistricting commission to draw council district boundaries in the future.
