The guy’s bounced around, he’s seen a lot of the NFL,” said Bill Bradley, publisher of the sports website 27×7.com.
Keith Wright, 31, was arrested Monday night on suspicion of committing three home-invasion robberies and sexually assaulting one of his victims after DNA evidence confirmed his link to the crimes.
Wright had a promising football career as a young man. According to Wikipedia, the Santa Clara native graduated from high school at age 17 and attended Arizona Western College in Yuma for two years before transferring to Sacramento City College in 1999.
Wright went on to play at the University of Missouri where he had 68 sacks his first season and 92 tackles in 2002. According to Wikipedia, Wright expected to be chosen in the third or fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft, but was instead the final pick of the sixth round by the Texans. Wright signed a three-year contract worth $925,000 for the 2003 to 2005 football seasons.
In November 2003, Wright was signed as a free agent from the Texans practice squad by the Indianapolis Colts. A year later, in 2004, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to their practice squad and released in July 2005. The Arizona Cardinals signed him to a one-year contract on August 5, 2005, but subsequently released him on August 29.
The Buccaneers signed him as a free agent in January 2006 and assigned him to NFL Europe. He was released on September 2, 2006, and signed to the Detroit Lions where he wore No. 68 on practice squad.
That’s what life is like for a lot of NFL players,” Bradley said. “You’re trying to stick with one team or catch on with another if you can’t.”
NFL records show Wright never played in a NFL game. He was arrested Monday on suspicion of committing two home-invasion robberies in South Natomas and one home invasion in North Natomas during which the victim wassexually assaulted.
