A large grass fire in the North Natomas Regional Park on Monday was started accidentally, city officials said.

The Sacramento Fire Department was called to the scene off Natomas Boulevard at about 1:33 p.m. on June 1, according to spokesperson Capt. Keith Wade. The fire was started by a spark from a mower cutting weeds.

“Crews were on scene well over an hour to extinguish,” Wade said.

Fire crews were called back to the scene just after 4 p.m. due to a flare up. Between 20 to 30 acres were burned in all, Wade said.

About three acres burned Sept. 13, 2019 when a mower sparked a blaze in the North Natomas Regional Park.
