One Man Dead After Shooting in Natomas

One man is dead and another in critical condition after a shooting last night, Nov. 8 in Natomas.

At about 10:54 p.m., Sacramento Police patrol officers responded to a reports of a collision at the intersection of Truxel and San Juan roads. Callers also reported shots had been fired at the scene.

When officers arrived at the intersection, they found two vehicles were involved in a collision.

In one vehicle, officers located a male occupant with multiple gunshot wounds. That victim was declared deceased on scene.

Officers located a second victim, at the intersection, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. That victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently in critical, but stable condition.

Homicide and crime scene investigators were called to the scene to take over the investigation. Truxel Road remains closed from I-80 to Mill Oak Way. San Juan is closed from Pony Express to the shopping center west of Truxel.

The I-80 westbound off ramp at Truxel road which was closed due to police activity, reopened at about 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.

According to police, it appears that the two victims of the shooting were in the same vehicle. That vehicle collided with another vehicle near the intersection of San Juan and Truxel road. Occupants of the second vehicle involved in the collision sustained no injury, and are reportedly not involved in the shooting.

According to a press release issued by police, the circumstances into how this incident unfolded are still under investigation. Homicide detectives are actively working to identify a motive and suspect in this case. Investigators will conduct a thorough neighborhood canvass to locate any witnesses and surveillance footage of the incident.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased victim once next of kin have been notified.
