A college planning event targeting Latino students will be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mexican Consulate in Natomas.

The California Student Aid Commission, the Mexican Consulate, Cien Amigos and others have joined forces to host the third annual “Steps to College” – a university fair created to provide a one-stop educational exhibit for high school students planning to attend college. The fair features information and on-site guidance as well as financial assistance opportunities.

Representatives from more than 40 colleges will be on hand Saturday, Feb. 1. Students who attend “Steps to College” will have the opportunity to apply onsite for the California Dream Act financial aid, Cal Grants, institutional aid and, if students are eligible, federal grants. The college financial aid application period in California began on Jan. 1 and is until March 2.

Workshop topics may include Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, Financial Aid, Admission Processes, and Consular affairs.

The event is meant to help Latino students from Northern California and is presented in both Spanish and English. Parents are encouraged to attend.

The Mexican Consulate is located at 2093 Arena Blvd.
