The Inderkum High School football team paid tribute Friday night to one of its former teammates Dylan Marshall Akins.

Akins died from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident on July 12. His football jersey – No. 75 – was retired by his coaches during a candlelight vigil held at the school on July 15.

Akins played varsity baseball three years for the Tigers as a pitcher and first baseman. He was also a football team captain and a two-year, two-way starter on the defensive and offensive line. He planned to play and football and baseball at Yuba College in the fall.

Family members were on hand Sept. 6 for a presentation made midfield honoring Akins at the Inderkum home football opener against Bethal High School.
