The first day of the 41st Annual Sacramento-West Reading, Pennsylvania Basketball Exchange Tourney in Natomas concluded Tuesday with a showdown between Inderkum and Jesuit high schools.

Jesuit got off to a 19-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back en route to an 88-48 win.

While dubbed a tournament, Coach Rodney Haymer of Inderkum said the June 25 game was a chance for non-starters to showcase their ability in hopes of making the team in the fall.

“It was definitely beneficial, because players who normally didn’t play a lot got to play,” said Haymer. “We had a lot of sophomores play in this game, so they got to see the pace and how fast the varsity game is.”

Haymer said that while the tournament was a tryout, it wasn’t the only chance to earn a spot on playing basketball for the Tigers.

“Everything that we do is preparing (the players),” he said. “I have an idea of who is going to make the team, but they still have another opportunity in the fall to try out.”

Despite the loss Tuesday night, there were some bright spots for Inderkum.

Sharp shooter LD Dhaliwal knocked down three, 3-pointers, while forward Andrew Ignont notched 9 points as well. Power forward Davion Davis also chipped in with 6 points.

The Tigers will wrap up the two-day tournament in a consolation game 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 at Inderkum High School.
