Sacramento Police today arrested a man for the early-morning shooting death of a man in a Natomas parking lot earlier this month.

The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 30-year-old Dominique Nelson on suspicion of murdering Vincent Vigil, 26. Nelson was arrested by police today in the area of West Elkhorn Boulevard and East Commerce Way during a traffic stop.

On June 12 at about 2:18 a.m. officers responded to the 500 block of Bankside Way on the report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Vigil wounded, on the ground in the parking lot of an apartment complex. He died at the scene from his injuries.

The Sacramento Police Department launched a homicide investigation and detectives determined there had been a brief exchange of words between Vigil and his assailant, followed by shots being fired which resulted in his death.

Over the course of the 2 1/2-week investigation police said they discovered that Nelson observed Vigil burglarizing his vehicle, police said.

Police said said Nelson, suspicious of Vigil breaking into his car, followed the man and confronted him. Vigil was then shot multiple times in the upper body.
