Sacramento police have arrested a man who pretended to be sleeping in an attempt to avoid detection.

Officers responded to a business burglary call on the 2300 block of Northgate Boulevard this morning at about 12:54 a.m.

An employee told police she heard banging as if someone was trying to break into the restaurant, which was closed at the time. When the banging got louder, the employee fled out of the front of the business to wait for police to arrive.

Officers arrived on the scene and set up a perimeter around the business. Upon investigating the scene, they found suspect Julio Basquez, 26, hiding inside the restaurant pretending to be asleep.

Police said Basquez reportedly broke into the vacant business next door and then broke in through a shared wall and had moved several items to the back door prior to being caught by officers.

Basquez was taken into custody without incident and arrested on suspicion of burglary and outstanding warrants. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail where he is currently being held in lieu of $64,000 bail.
