A Natomas 5th grader is a finalist in a national writing contest that could win her class more than $5,000 worth of reading materials.

Westlake Charter School student Aja Jett’s story “Rikki’s Great Escape” is among the top three entries in the McGraw Hill SRA Reading Labs Writing Contest for 4th-6th grade adventure writing category.

“Now she needs our community support and votes to win,” said Sandra Crenshaw, Jett’s teacher.

If Jett’s story wins, Crenshaw said her class prize package will include a SRA Reading Labs 2.0 class set for a full year, an iPad for classroom use, Specific Skills Series for Language Arts, and a classroom set of Wonders – valued at $5,116.
