NUSD Revisits Community Day School Plan

The Natomas Unified School District will host a community meeting 6 p.m. Thursday, August 20 to discuss opening a Community Day School for the 2009-10 school year.

NATOMAS BUZZ readers may recall a plan to open a Community Day School on the H. Allen Hight campus was approved by NUSD trustees in June 2008. The proposal met with some protest and complaints that the district failed to notify the Creekside neighborhood, adjacent to the campus, of the plan.

District trustees in July 2008 decided to table opening a Community Day School and instead send those students who qualified for this service to a county-run program. Also approved was holding community meetings seeking input when developing the community day school and the board asked to revisit the issue in three months.

The district is apparently considering the old NP3 campus on East Commerce for this program. This week’s meeting will be held at Witter Ranch Elementary School, 3790 Poppy Hill Way, in the Multi-purpose room.

Comments

  1. As I recall, this is a good idea because it is supposed to save the district moeny in the long run by keeping students in the district. Thanks for the update.

  2. Yes, it may save the district money, but a community day school does not belong on an elementary school campus. The old NP3 campus may be a good solution.

  3. As long as the district has the programs, safety plan and teachers and staff to do the kids justice and not just keep them in Natomas to save money.
