Ding, Dong, Ditch – The Neighborhood Burglary Trick?

A NATOMAS BUZZ reader writes:

“… at 10 p.m. tonight my doorbell rang twice but when I checked there was no one there. My dogs barked like crazy so I guess it scared whoever they were off. Paladin our security crew said they had three calls last night so he believes there are potential burglars looking for homes with no one there. I am located around N. Bend and Blackrock area.”

According to the security office, burglars could use is to ring the door bell and run and watch from afar to see if there is any movement in the house. Our reader suggests calling Paladin (if you live in Natomas Park) or the police and turn on some lights to make sure people know you are home.

Thanks for the tip, J.L.!

This is common practice among burglars. The more bold thieves will sometimes pretend to be a sales person not only to see if anyone’s home, but to get a peek into your house if you do answer then come back when you aren’t home. Never answer the door if you don’t know who it is!
