The homes went up in flames on Haggin Avenue near El Camino and Northgate Boulevard just north of the Garden Highway before 6 a.m.
Fire officials warn against attempts to cut back already dried-out grasses as equipment used to perform these tasks would actually increase the risk of fire at this point.
