From The Mailbox: What Is RD 1000?

Reclamation District No. 1000 was created in 1911 through an act of the State Legislature.

The district’s purpose: To protect the lives and property of those within its boundary of Natomas.

Since the original levee construction between 1912 and 1914, Natomas has become home to over 70,000 residents, thousands of businesses, schools, Sacramento International Airport, and Interstates 5 and 80.

There is over $8 billion in damageable property within the Natomas basin protected by the RD 1000.

The district maintains over 40 miles of levees, seven pump stations, 30 miles of canals and numerous drainage ditches.
