Sacramento police are investigating an early-morning homicide in Natomas.

At about 2:18 a.m. Wednesday a man visiting an apartment complex on the 500 block of Bankside Way was walking in the parking lot when he was confronted by one or more individuals, brief words were exchanged and then shots fired, according to Sgt. Norm Leong.

The man, described only as being 26 and not from the Sacramento area, died on the scene from his injuries, Leong said. The victim was shot multiple times in the upper body.

Homicide detectives, CSI and the Sacramento County Coroner’s office were on the scene investigating.

Police said it is not known what motivated the shooting, why the victim was at that apartment complex, or the identity of the suspect. The apartment complex where the shooting took place has many residences and investigators believe there may be more unidentified witnesses.
