More than 300 volunteers recently worked 6,558 hours in Natomas on community-improvement “Oasis Games” projects inspired and planned by a youth leadership team.

Together, 217 youth volunteers from the Sacramento Waldorf School, River Garden Estates and The GreenHouse tore down a dilapidated, graffiti-filled fence and built a brand new one, created a safe and stable pathway connecting the apartment complexes to the nearby shopping center, painted a mural on the new fence, and cultivated a beautiful community garden with new pathways, fences, benches, and plants. Edgard Gouveia, founder of the Oasis Games and the Elos Institute, flew up from Brazil to facilitate the games.

Every item used in the “Oasis Games” effort was donated. Contributors included Oscar Bautista, C & C Construction, Walmart, Councilman Steve Cohn, Waste Management, and Sacramento Waldorf School parents and faculty.
