Hundreds of people each week take solace from the summer heat in an air-conditioned theater thanks to discount movies in Natomas.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays through July 30, the Regal Natomas Marketplace Stadium 16 is showing two movies for only $1 per person. Both movies play at 10 a.m. only and a portion of ticket sales benefit the Will Rogers Institute.regalsummermovie

“For six years the summer movie express has brought the Natomas community together in a great and cheap way,” theater manager Margie Heimbuch said. “The movies give something fun for kids and their families to do.”

Regal Summer Movie Express generally caters to children by showing only G and PG rated movies such as “Coraline” and “ParaNorman,” which will be on screen this week.

About 300 people a day take an advantage of the inexpensive ticket prices, according to Heimbuch.

“Although they show older movies, the Summer Series are very cheap and a fun experience for the kids,” parent Leeanna Hallett said during a recent visit to the theater.

Regal Natomas Marketplace Stadium 16 is located at 3651 Truxel Road.
