The Gardenland-Northgate Neighborhood Association this week awarded four $500 scholarships to local graduating seniors who have plans to pursue higher education.

Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna was on hand to present the scholarships to Ariahna Sanchez, Teresa Juarez, Haley Davis, Sara Dixon.

Sanchez is a Grant High School graduate where she took AP courses, participated in AVID and served as president of Interact – the youth rotary club that focuses on community service. She will be attending Mills College in the fall.

Juarez is an El Camino High School graduate where she was involved in AVID and volleyball. She will be attending Sacramento State in the fall where she hopes to study sociaology or social work. She also has her sights set on joining the Peace Corps.

Davis is also a Grant High graduate who participated in AVID, took AP courses, was involved in student government and played volleyball. She will be attending San Jose State in the fall.

Dixon is a Natomas High School graduate where she was part of the California Scholarship Federation which connects students with varying abilities and cultures to get to know each other. She will attend UC Berkeley in the fall where she plans to study International Relations and Political Science.
