Sacramento police have arrested a burglary suspect who tried to avoid officers by climbing onto the roof of home in north Natomas.

At about 11:35 a.m. today, police received a report of a burglary call for a home on the 2100 block of Moonstone Way.

Sacramento police spokesperson Doug Morse said the suspect had entered the home when he was surprised by a 10-year-old juvenile inside the home and fled.

Police ground and air units responded quickly and locked down the perimeter, Morse said.

According to witnesses, the suspect ran from the Moonstone Way home, across the North Natomas Community Park greenbelt, at times climbing fences to avoid being detected by officers.

At some point during the chase, Morse said the suspect attempted to carjack a vehicle while being pursued by police officers, but he was not successful.

The suspect eventually took refuge on the roof of a home on the 200 block of Lyman Circle, where he was detained by officers for several minutes until he surrendered. The suspect used a ladder which was placed by Sacramento fire fighters to come down from the roof.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released by police, was taken into custody without incident. Talk of additional suspects was not confirmed by officers on the scene, Morse said.

The Natomas Charter School campus, located nearby on Blackrock Road, was placed on a temporary modified lock down during the incident.

Too bad it doesn’t mention Paladin who were the first responders and stayed with the child during the pursuit.

    • Paladin and Security Officer Benny Pulido was the hero of the day. He was down the street when he got the call and as he approached the house, witnessed the suspect on the side of the house and scared him away which led to the pursuit. People just don’t appreciate our Paladin Security Patrol Officers enough. Much love.
