An arrest this morning near Inderkum High School is not believed to be linked to the fight on campus yesterday, school officials said.

According to Sacramento Police, an officer driving in the area was flagged down this morning near the American River College Natomas Center by a witness who reported seeing a suspicious person, possibly carrying a weapon, near the tennis courts on Del Paso Road. The ARC Natomas Center is located adjacent to Inderkum and shares the same complex with the North Natomas Library.

Additional police officers responded to the scene and after a short foot chase apprehended a 16-year-old male, police spokesperson Michele Gigantes said. A canine search turned up a loaded gun and the suspect was arrested, she said.

“He was never on campus and was taken into custody pretty quickly,” said Gigante.

Natomas Unified superintendent Chris Evans said there is no information that links today’s incident with a fight which occurred at Inderkum on Tuesday. Evans confirmed the juvenile arrested is not a student at any district school and praised the Sacramento Police Dept. for their quick response.

Evans said the district has stepped up security on the high school campus through finals.

“We want kids to feel good about where they go to school,” he said. “Having extra adults around being visible and working with the police department as partners is how it’s supposed to work.”
