Airport Installs New Vehicle Chargers

The Sacramento International Airport will install four new vehicle chargers in the daily overflow parking lot next month.

Vehicle chargers have already been installed in the parking garage serving Terminals A and B.

The new chargers work on Chevy Leaf and Nissan Volt electrical vehicles. The units can fully charge a depleted electric vehicle batter in 3 to 4 hours. Charging requires 15 to 20 hours if using a standard 110-volt electrical outlet.

The chargers are provided as a convenience to airport visitors and a resource for drivers who need to charge their vehicles in the midst of long trips. Use of the charging stations is free, but standard parking fees apply.

Two new chargers are available on each floor of the six-story garage along with one charging unit for older model Toyota RAV4 electrical vehicles.

The next chargers will be installed in the Daily surface lot which is available to drive when the parking garage is full.

The chargers were funded through a grant from the California Energy Commission.
