At 4:14 p.m. today, police received a call someone had been shot on the 2100 block of Peakview Avenue, just off Banfield Drive in the Natomas Park neighborhood.

Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim – described only as a male in his 50s – dead inside the home.

Police made contact with and detained a suspect in the shooting.

“We are looking into the possibility they (the victim and suspect) are related,” said Michele Gigante, spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Dept.

Police are not releasing the names of the victim or the alleged shooter, Gigante said, citing the ongoing investigation. Homicide and Crime Scene Investigators remained on the scene four hours after the shooting was first reported.

Residents of Peakview Avenue, lingering in front of their homes and on the street this evening, said they were saddened by the day’s events and the loss of a well-known neighbor.

“He was really nice,” said one, “It’s so overwhelming.”
