Man Shoots Up Natomas After Crashing Car

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting early thus morning in Natomas.

At about 2:45 .a.m., police responded to the intersection of West Camino Avenue and Dorine Way regarding a head-on traffic collision. As patrol officers were en route, several callers advised they saw a subject shooting multiple rounds in random directions while at the accident scene.

When the first officer arrived, the suspect was sitting inside his damaged vehicle. The suspect was given multiple commands to surrender yet failed to comply.

The suspect then stepped out of the vehicle wielding a rife and advanced toward the uniformed officer. Fearing for his life, the officer fired at the suspect with his service pistol.

The suspect continued to move towards the officer as the officer sought cover. As additional officers arrived on scene the suspect surrendered.

No one was injured during this event; however, the suspect was transported to an area hospital due to the impact of the vehicle collision. He is described as a male, Black adult in his late 20s. His identity has not been released due to the on-going investigation.

An extensive neighborhood canvass was performed and no other victims were located.

As is standard in all officer-involved shootings and per department policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave. The officer is a seven-year veteran with the Sacramento Police Department.

The Sacramento Police Department’s Homicide, Internal Affairs, Professional Standards, Crime Scene Investigations and Traffic Unit are working on this investigation.
