Sacramento transportation crews will close a segment of Northgate Boulevard tomorrow to practice installing floodgates.

The city conducts flood training exercises every year to teach new crew members how to install floodgates used to stop the flow of high water.

Del Paso Boulevard between Northgate Boulevard and the Highway 160 on-ramp will be closed Oct. 19, from about 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for floodgate training. Detour signs will be in place to redirect traffic.

Every fall, city transportation crews replenish storage facilities, check sandbag supplies and equipment and inspect floodgates and make repairs where necessary. The city maintains floodgates at 14 locations.
