North Natomas School Locked Down This Morning

Armed Man Prompts Voluntary Move
An armed man, threatening suicide at Regency Community Park prompted a North Natomas school to be locked down this morning.
Sac PD dispatchers received a call at 6:50 a.m. this morning from a woman reporting her 45-year-old husband was suicidal and had left their home armed with a gun. At about 8:30 a.m. the reporting party called Sac PD again and it was determined the man was at Regency Community Park.

Twin Rivers Unified School District officials confirmed Regency Park Elementary School was placed on voluntary lockdown after being notified of the man’s presence in the park property nearby. The school is located on Bridgecross Drive and is adjacent to Regency Community Park which also faces Honor Parkway.

Police officers made contact with the man who surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. The was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

The school lockdown was lifted after 15 minutes and classes resumed as normal at 9:05 a.m.

  1. Thank goodness for the peaceful outcome.

Kudos to the officers who successfully talked this man off the ledge per se. That is a tense situation. I hope the man gets the help he needs.

Often these situations end very badly, with officer(s) necessarily shooting the person in what is often described as “suicide by cop.” Thankfully that did not come into play today.
