It is amazing how many trees fell over with stakes on them. What I think alot of people do not realize is that if you leave the stakes on too long, you inhibit the root growth, and the tree is much weaker. To check and see if you can remove the stakes, wait until the ground fully drys, then try rocking the tree, if the ground does not move much, you can remove the stakes. You will have healthier trees that will make it thru these type of storms. In one of those pictures I saw a 8-10 inch diameter tree still staked, and I see them all over my neighborhood.
