Natomas School District Appoints Interim Leader

The Natomas Unified School District board of trustees tonight unanimously voted to appoint Dr. General S. Davie Jr. as interim superintendent effective Dec. 1.

Davie worked as superintendent at the Natomas district from 1991-98 and the San Juan Unified School District from 1998-2005. He will serve as interim superintendent while the district searches for a replacement for Dr. Steve Farrar who is retiring.

Davie was named “Superintendent of the Year” in 1996 by the Sacramento Urban League and received the Marcus Foster Award from the Association of California School Administrators. He has won praise from educators, parents and elected officials for his leadership skills, experience with budget issues and efforts to improve community relations.

“General has the skills that will be helpful in assisting a district to navigate the troubled financial times we now face,” Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools Dave Gordon stated in a letter of recommendation. “He works well with employee organizations and Board members, and he is a man of the highest integrity.”

Davie has been active in a number of regional and statewide educational group including the Association of California School Administrators and the California Department of Education K-16 Master Plan Statewide Task Force. As a condition of his interim appointment, Davie will not be an applicant for the permanent superintendent position.
