City OKs Funds For Natomas Teen Center

The Sacramento City Council on Feb. 24 unanimously approved allocating $1.7 million to help build the Carl R. Hansen Teen Center at Stanford Settlement in South Natomas.

The funds were a combination of South Natomas Community Infrastructure Funds and Community Reinvestment Capital Improvement Program funds that can only be used for capital projects in South Natomas .

When completed the teen center will the growing number of youth in Gardenland-Northgate area and provide a safe environment, with meaningful activities, for teens to develop and grow.

The new facility will provide youth with, a full indoor basketball court, a large game room, offices for small group counseling, a study room and computer lab, their own kitchen, space for job training, and opportunities for independent study/tutoring.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this month and should be completed by the end of 2009.
