That’s How We Roll

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post “Natomas Residents Run For Delegate Posts”:

this website is a joke… you censor posts…nice…typical of librals.

where are my responses to the above posts?

Yup, from time to time we censor posts we feel are offensive and/or fail to move the dialog forward.

  1. Buzz- you are doing a fantastic job! Everyone loves reading your blog. Why doesn’t “anonymous” form their own blog and make it all negative? I’ll bet they won’t get over 70,000 hits and have a growing fanbase on facebook!

  2. Or better yet, why don’t the Anoymous’ ever use their real names? Trixie (aka, Tristan)

  3. this will get censored once again but here is the answer… I like freedom of speech… the only reason many of you would want to know who I am is to attack me publicly for my views. Like what happened with Prop 8, the picketing, public attacks and even death threats over someones political views… the radical liberal left in this town would make damn sure anyone speaking their mind would be persecuted.

THAT’S WHY I post anonymously.. or i could do what many do.. and post under a fake name… how would you know.. and why does it matter…?

  4. You don’t like freedom of speech, you like bashing people, places, things from the closet you hide out in.

I guess I’d like to know your name because you are so good at name calling.

    Tristan

  5. I just called the Sacramento People’s Liberation Front and they said they’re not gonna hurt you.

    John

P.S. That helicopter you hear buzzing over your house? Relax, it’s just the Channel 3 traffic bird. And really bad weed.

  6. “Freedom of Speech” refers to our right as Americans not to have our speech censored by our government.

It does not obligate this (or any other) blog’s owner to approve all comments.

That being said — I do understand the desire to post comments anonymously because there often are repercussions for those who have opposing points of view, and the examples cited previously (“picketing, public attacks and even death threats”) are valid. But I tend to take such anonymous posts (and, in fact, often entire blogs) with a big grain of salt, because I think identifying oneself when expressing an opinion with facts to support it makes the argument more credible and apt to be taken more seriously by the audience.

  7. This is a pretty serious post. I think the only person getting violent on this blog is MR anonymous himself. As far as freedom of speach goes, I don’t think anyone is stopping you from opening up your own blog, and talking about whatever you like? This is a great website for information going on in our nieghborhoods. IF your looking for a soap box to ‘talk’ about your political views about Prop 8, or anything else, I don’t think you found the right place for it.

  8. Blog owners have a right to censor posts on THEIR web sites–especially abusive ones.

As for anonymity, Keith said, “But I tend to take such anonymous posts (and, in fact, often entire blogs) with a big grain of salt, because I think identifying oneself when expressing an opinion with facts to support it makes the argument more credible and apt to be taken more seriously by the audience.”

Hmm.. The Natomas Buzz is pretty much anonymous as far as I know. Do you take it to with a grain of salt, too? How about all the sacbee.com anonymous editorials? Anonymous letters to the editor? The federalist papers that formed the basis for our Constitution? Endless amounts of scripture whose authors are essentially anonymous?

When anonymity becomes the measure by which the quality of an opinion is judged, we are in DEEP TROUBLE. Shudder.

    Hooray for anonymity! :D

  9. Our byline is posted on the page.

  10. I am a Conservative Republican. I look on this website regularly. I appreciate news about my neighborhood. I can ignore political opinions because that is all they are, opinions. I just use this website to be updated on Natomas.

  11. Mark Billingsley says

The Bee and any other reputable newspaper does not print anonymous letters to the editor. If you feel strongly enough about an issue to make a comment for the world to see, you should use your real name, plain and simple. This whole thread started when one chickensh_it person hid behind his or her anonymity to take shots at another person. That’s uncalled for. If he or she would have used their real name and posted the same comment, I would have respected them and their opinion. But when they hide behind the name anonymous, then they are and their comment is – once again – chickensh_it.

  12. Mark Billingsley. You don’t own a home in Natomas or in Sacramento County for that matter. Do you even live in our community?

On what information do you base your comments about Mr. Billingsley? He does, in fact, reside in Natomas and has for quite some time.
