BE SMART, BE SAFE

Halloween Safety Tips from the Natomas Crime & Safety Leadership Team…
  • Make sure you are visible (Lights, Reflectors, Glow Sticks, Flashlights) Keep an eye on traffic (make sure the cars can see you)
  • Don’t let young children go trick-or-treating alone.
  • Use a buddy system for older children to ensure they stay with friends
  • Accompany young children to every house
  • Only approach homes that have lights on and are well lit or decorated for Halloween!
  • Warn children not to enter any home without permission from their parents
  • Caution children not to approach any vehicle, occupied or not, unless they know the owner and are with a parent
  • Only give and accept wrapped or packaged candy (unless you know the family very well)
  • Grown Ups – Inspect all the treats and dispose of anything that has been opened or looks tampered with (just to be safe)
  • Don’t stay out too late
  • Make sure your animals are safe in the yard or in the house (its always fun to take your dog with you as you walk around trick or treating)
  • Be sure to blow out candles in pumpkins at the end of the evening & watch out for those candles as you go to each home (make sure costumes don’t make contact with flames)
  • It might rain tonight so be prepared for that – umbrellas, jackets, etc
  • Make sure face masks & costume parts do not limit visibility
  • Use foam, rubber or other soft materials for props like daggers or swords
**** DRIVERS – BE EXTRA CAREFUL TONIGHT****

It’s wet and the little ones will be everywhere so take it nice and slow so we have a safe evening!

Most importantly – HAVE FUN. Watch-out for each other and enjoy this “‘spooky” day.

Happy Halloween,
Natomas Crime & Safety Leadership Team
