Wanna Give Mayor Fargo a Run for Her Money?

Rumors abound that Kevin Johnson will throw his hat into the ring for Sactown’s mayoral race.

Here’s information on the June 3 primary municipal election — should anyone else be interested!

JUNE 3, 2008 PRIMARY MUNICIPAL ELECTION:
For the purpose of electing the Mayor of Sacramento and Sacramento City Council Members in Council Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8 for terms expiring Nov. 25.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
A candidate must be an elector and a resident within the district the candidate seeks to represent for not less than 30 days preceding the date of filing candidate papers (no later than 2/6/08). The candidate’s qualifications will be verified through Sacramento County voter registration files prior to the issuance of a nomination package. Elector and resident status must be maintained during the term of office.

NOMINATION PERIOD:
The nomination period commences Feb. 11 and ends on March 7. The Sacramento City Clerk will issue and accept for filing official nomination documents during regular business hours.

RESULTS:
In order to be successful in the June 3, 2008 Primary Election, one candidate must receive a majority of votes cast in that candidate’s particular district. If one candidate does not win a majority (50% plus 1) of the votes cast, the top two vote receivers will be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot for a run off.

Candidates winning in June will not be sworn in until Nov. 25 when the terms of the Mayor and Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8 expire.
