The shots fell early and often for Inderkum girls basketball Tuesday night as the lady Tigers beat Foothill on the road 73-51.
The point total (73) was the most scored this season for Inderkum, and the margin of victory (21) was the largest this season. Four Tigers scored in double figures and the team led the entire game.
“It was our best night,” Inderkum head coach Phillip Hampton said. “They were moving the ball around and shooting well. It was a good shooting night.”
Senior Sakara Brewer scored the first eight points for Inderkum (6-6) as the Tigers got off to a 10-1 lead within the first three minutes of the game. That was the quick start Hampton was hoping for going into the first of two, consecutive nights of basketball for the lady Tigers.
“We needed come in with some real intensity,” Hampton said when comparing the team’s performances at the Trojan Toss-Up tournament in El Dorado Hills over the weekend, where the girls went 1-2.
Inderkum beat Will C. Wood – which happens to be their opponent Wednesday night in Vacaville – by three points on Friday. But the Tigers lost the other two games to River City and Clovis.
“If we come with this type of intensity, those are games we could have a better showing and possibly won,” Hampton said.
The Tigers led by as many as 17 points throughout the second half against Foothill and got back to .500 in the win column thanks in part to 28 bench points.
Anthina McCaskel recorded her third consecutive double-double off the bench with 10 points and a team-high 15 rebounds.
“I told our girls before the game that with our sixth-man putting up double-doubles two games in a row, she is moving up to a starting position,” Hampton said of McCaskel’s recent performances.
Junior guard Maria LaFontaine scored eight points off the bench with two three-pointers and Alexis Ousley also scored six points in reserve time for Inderkum.
“Now (the bench) is getting deeper,” Hampton said. “If they are coming off the bench and hitting on all cylinders – we got action.”
Brewer led the Tigers with 19 points. Corianna Yerger scored 10 points and Kyliyah Daniel scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
