Cops Nab Natomas Wire Copper Thieves (Updated)

Shortly after midnight this morning, Jan. 30, police officers patrolling in the area of Natomas Central Drive and Hovnanian Drive spotteda truck parked along the curb line in the bike lane with the back door open.
As the officers pulled up behind the vehicle they saw a man closing the passenger door. The man took off running and the officer pursued him on foot.
The male ran into an open grassy area and unsuccessfully tried to conceal himself in the tall grass. the suspect was located using a spotlight.
The officers’ investigation revealed fresh cut wire in the vehicle and the identity of the apprehended suspect’s accomplice, who was also arrested.

Arrested were Ronald Schmidt, 39 (top photo) and Kenneth Thomas, 39 (bottom photo).

Schmidt was charged with Felony Vandalism, Destruction of Telephone/Electric Lines, Grand Theft, and Conspiracy. Thomas was charged with Felony Vandalism, Destruction of Telephone/Electric Lines, Grand Theft, Conspiracy, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Resisting Arrest.
