Heard In Natomas: Tretheway Concedes To Ashby

Councilman Ray Tretheway this evening conceded the City Council District One race to challenger Angelique Ashby.
Tretheway called Ashby after Sacramento County elections officials updated their vote tally earlier in the day showing Ashby still in the lead with 51.1 percent of the votes counted.

Said Ashby, “I am excited to put the election behind us and move forward to serving District One.”
Tretheway could not be reached for comment.

  1. STATEMENT FROM COUNCILMEMBER TRETHEWAY CONCEDING DISTRICT ONE COUNCIL RACE TO ANGELIQUE ASHBY

I want to congratulate Angelique Ashby on her victory. Serving on the council for the last nine years has been an honor. I am proud of all we have done to improve Sacramento neighborhoods, but the voters have decided that it is time for new leadership, and I respect their decision.

I want to thank my many supporters and volunteers who spent countless hours walking precincts and calling voters on my behalf. And most importantly, I want to thank my beautiful wife, Judy Blue Eyes. There is simply no way I could have done this without her constant support and spirit.

I commit to continue to serve Sacramento- working hard to continue improvements in flood protection, bringing light rail to Natomas, investing in our youth and continuing to serve my over 100,000 constituents until the end of my term in late November.

I also commit to working with Angelique Ashby over the next several months to make sure that the transition is smooth. I call on my supporters to now get behind Angelique. She has brought great energy to this campaign, and it is time to put politics aside and work together improving the lives of all those who call Sacramento home.
