Councilwoman Angelique Ashby hosted a pizza party today while on a visit to the “Summer Oasis” day camp program her office helped fund.

Ashby saved the summer program for elementary school age children from being eliminated by using special District 1 funds to keep it open. When the program filled up, and more money was needed, she sought support from area businesses such as Alleghany Properties LLC which made a donation.
Local fire fighters accompanied Ashby to Regency Park, giving youngsters a peek inside their fire engine and cooling them off with a fire hose. After lunch program participants presented Ashby with a thank-you poster and several handmade cards.
Ashby said she hopes to be able to offer the program again next summer.
