STAFF REPORT
THE NATOMAS BUZZ | @natomasbuzz

Plans have been submitted to renovate the former Malabar site that will make way for a new sit-down restaurant in Natomas.

Public records show the city received an application for an expedited restaurant remodel at 2960 Del Paso Road on Oct. 24.

The Sacramento Business Journal reported in January 2022 that Spectra Global Cuisine restaurant group had signed a lease for the 7,000 square-foot space. According to that report, plans were to open a new Mas Fuego restaurant.

Messages to Mas Fuego from The Natomas Buzz have not answered.

Records show the remodel plans include demolishing existing millwork, walls and finishes. The interior space will be reconfigured with new equipment and finishes, according to the description. A separate permit will be sought to update exterior signage.

Malabar American Cooking opened in 2006 and closed in March 2020 during the initial pandemic shutdown and never reopened. The restaurant has remained vacant and was listed for lease in October 2021.
