“So how will bicycle riders get across the American River if the entrance to Discovery Park from Garden Highway is closed? I-5?”

North Natomas Jibe Bike & Bus Program Manager Mellissa Meng responds to reader question about most recent temporary closure of a section of Garden Highway:

With levee improvements forcing the closure of Garden Highway between I-5 and Truxel, a vital access point to the American River Trail has been made inaccessible. The bike path that runs under I-5 runs on the levee includes the entrance to Discovery Park via Natomas Park Dr. Cyclists wanting to get onto the trail must now take one of two detour options via Gateway Oaks Drive, West El Camino Avenue, and Truxel Road. Cyclist can also use Northgate Boulevard to bypass construction and access the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail. Construction is slated to be finished on August 31.

Happy riding.
