An online library of popular children’s books read by Sacramento leaders debuted today.

“Story Time Sacramento” features videos of more than a dozen children’s stories being read aloud by Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby — who launched the online library now available on her website — and many others.

“This library was inspired by all of the teachers and parents at home doing such amazing work to continue educating Sacramento’s littlest ones,” said Ashby, who represents north Natomas on the Sacramento City Council.

Story time narrators also include: Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn, Sac Republic player Sam Werner, Deputy Fire Chief Chad Augustine, Sacramento Zoo Director Jason Jacobs, California Black Chamber of Commerce & Grammy award-winning recording artist Jay King and more.

In the weeks to come, additional stories will become available online.

“We know playgrounds are closed and birthdays are difficult. There seem to be endless lists of things that kids cannot do but there is still so much love in our city, and so many people that want to help teachers and parents,” said Ashby. “This is our way of coming to your home, through a screen, to tell you we are right here with you, cheering you on and standing in awe of your amazing work. Keep it up moms, dads, siblings, teachers and caretakers. You are making a big difference.”
