A man has been arrested at the Sacramento International Airport for transporting a minor female across the country, without the knowledge of the victim’s legal guardians.

Nathan Salas, 27, was arrested at the Sacramento International Airport, and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. The victim was transported to the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall as an out-of-county runaway.

On August 19, the 14 year-old victim was reported as a missing person by her parents in Hamden, Connecticut, after leaving a suicide note and disappearing from home. The Hamden Police Department conducted an intensive search to locate her, and entered her into a national database as a missing juvenile. Hamden PD conducted a forensic analysis of the victim’s phone, and obtained a cellular phone number for Salas. Through a database it was discovered that Salas was from Merced.

Sacramento International Airport dispatch received a call from the Merced County Sheriff’s Department regarding a runaway whose parents had reported her missing. Investigation revealed information about flight arrangements for Salas and the victim from Connecticut to Sacramento. Investigators believe that Salas and the victim met on-line, and cultivated a relationship over the course of several months.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. last night, Sheriff’s deputies contacted Salas and the victim as they deboarded their inbound flight at the airport. Deputies contacted the victim’s father in Connecticut, and he confirmed the parents did not know Salas, and had not given their daughter permission to leave with him.

Salas was booked for intentionally concealing a child without parents’ consent, and is being held on $100,000 bail.
