Organization purpose: The GreenHouse is a non-profit, 501c3 organization located in the Gardenland Northgate neighborhood of Sacramento, California. We offer after-school tutoring, mentoring, summer day camps, a youth group for teens, leadership development, and skill-building workshops for under-resourced youth. Our mission is to cultivate a thriving community by nurturing the emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and physical development of our youth and inspiring them to grow to their full potential.
Task: Become an after-school tutor/mentor for at-risk elementary or teen students. The “Study Buddies” are paired with a student or small group of students to build relationships, supervise reading and math activities, and help with homework. Our programs nurture different skills to help them achieve success in school and life.

Organization name: Natomas Police and Community Resource Center
Organization purpose: NPCRC is a community service facility intended for the use and benefit of Sacramento police officers and the Natomas community in general.
Tasks: If you have concerns about potential criminal activity in your neighborhood, have been a victim of a crime and need assistance, or have family problems and do not know which governmental agency can assist you, we can help with on-line crime reports,code enforcement issues, fix-it tickets, crime and safety tips, answer phone, community events, maintain and clean the office.
Date/days volunteers are needed: M through Saturday
Times: 11 am-2 pm and 2-5 pm shifts

Organization name: Sacramento Valley Conservancy (SVC)
Organization purpose: Restore old Boy Scout camp – Camp Pollock, soon to be under SVC’s management is a new 11 acre acquisition by the State Lands Commission along the American River and can be found just north of downtown Sacramento, under Hwy 160.
About the Sacramento Valley Conservancy: Celebrating over 22 years of protecting open space and accreditation by the Land Trust Alliance Accreditation Commission, the Sacramento Valley Conservancy is a private, non-profit land trust founded in 1990 on two basic principles–that open lands are necessary for quality of life and that we must save land today so future generations may enjoy its benefits tomorrow. The Conservancy buys land only from willing sellers, and works cooperatively with private landowners and public and private funding sources to create win-win solutions. Tasks- General: The tasks include; upgrade and expand camping areas, assemble a court yard with an interpretive native plant garden, build benches, construct picnic tables and create a trail in front of Lodge for public access. The SVC has goals to improve the entrance way and parking area, as well as hire a contractor to repair the 1924 lodge, to this beautiful property.
Tasks- Specific:
Entry Level Volunteer: General improvements to the property are the first goals. See list above.
Specialty Volunteer Docents: Construction, painting or plumbing repairs.
Public Volunteer Docent: Spend the day outdoors greeting visitors to historic Camp Pollock. Once constructed, Docents will direct guests to natural riparian garden and walking paths along the 11 acres of the property. Become a lasting memory to those that spend part of their day exploring the American River Parkway in Sacramento.

Organization name: Parks Leadership Academy for Youth, also known as PLAY
Organization purpose: Youth ages 14-21 are invited to participate in a youth volunteer event. Do you like spending time outdoors? Do you want to meet new friends? Join us for youth park clean-up day! Help beautify the City’s parks while having fun and spending some time in the sun.
Task: Beautify our Parks – Calling all Youth and Teens. Activities may include weeding, tending gardens, picking up trash, etc.
Date/days volunteers are needed: Saturday, April 20th; Tuesday and Thursday mornings during the summer
Time: 9:00 am to 12 noon
Tools required: Please dress for the weather, wear closed toed shoes, and bring work gloves if you have them. This is a rain or shine activity, but heavy rain will cancel. Also note that all volunteers will need to complete a City of Sacramento Volunteer Agreement form prior to starting work.
