A new eatery is taking shape at the former Johnny Carino’s location in Natomas.

In the past week, the Italian restaurant logo has finally been removed and replaced with signage for Yue Huang Restaurant which is slated to open in May 2016.

The restaurant is located in the Natomas Village shopping center at 3860 Truxel Road, adjacent to Chili’s Bar & Grill, near Interstate 80.

Johnny Carino’s closed abruptly in early August 2014. Workers were given 24-hours notice of the closure and the 6,842 square foot freestanding retail space has sat empty ever since.

But behind the scenes, the restaurant interior has been undergoing a complete overhaul. All the existing fixtures have been removed, opening up the eatery floor plan to accommodate a sit-down dim sum restaurant. According to the City of Sacramento permit tracker database, the interior remodel for Yue Huang started in October 2015.

Dim Sum is a style of Chinese cooking prepared as small bite-sized portions traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. Dim sum is also known for the way it is served in some restaurants, fully cooked and ready-to-serve carted around the restaurant for customers to choose while seated at tables.

In addition to dim sum, the Yue Huang menu will feature seafood. The restaurant will also have banquet space available.

Yue Huang is hiring and an online application can be found on the restaurant’s website at yuehuangseafood.com.
