Natomas Cops Log – March 28, 2015

Incidents are from shifts starting March 27, 2015:

15-084731 (City Vehicle Collision): Truxel Rd / I 80 Wb at 1520 hours.
Officers were patrolling the area when they were struck by another vehicle. No injuries were reported. DUI does not appear to be a factor. A report was generated.

15-085333 (Shooting): 2900 block of Myotis Dr at 0204 hours.
Officers responded to the report of gunshots heard in the area, apparently relating to a party at a nearby residence at Myotis Drive and Jackdaw Court that was promoted on social media, according to Lt. Charles Husted, with the Sacramento Police Department. When officers arrived on scene, they located multiple shell casings in the roadway and there were no injuries reported, according to reports.

Husted said that uninvited party-goers participated in the festivities, which later resulted in an altercation that spilled out into the street. “Shots were then fired and people scattered,” he said. “Fortunately no one was injured as a result”

Husted said the “shots fired” call was the first call police received at the location with respect to the party. “Many of these parties get loud long before 2 a.m., which can be addressed through officer’s response to a noise complaint or party call,” he added. “I don’t have confirmation but I suspect information about this party went out on social media, grabbing the attention of those not specifically invited. We have seen such instances erupt into gunfire previously and one of the common denominators seems to be posting party information on social media.”

Husted said police will address the issues associated to the party and with those involved. “However our reactionary response can’t change what has already occurred,” he said. “Please talk with neighbors about keeping a watchful eye on parties popping up and call SPD Dispatch when things start getting loud and/or other issues arise that cause concern.”

Husted said police are working to monitor social media threads, but that there is no way that officers can become aware and anticipate every party that has the likelihood of turning violent. “As with all of our neighborhood safety efforts we have, can and will be successful working together to address community issues,” he said.

15-085386 (Domestic Violence): 1500 block of Waterwheel Dr at 0406 hours.
Officers responded to the report of a victim who was assaulted by a known subject. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries. When officers attempted to contact the suspect, a foot pursuit ensued. Officers quickly detained the suspect who was ultimately arrested for domestic violence and multiple other charges.
