Overturned Logging Truck Closes I-5 in Natomas

Update 4:05 p.m. – Lanes #1, 2 and 3 have re-opened. Lane #4 remains closed for cleanup & tow and northbound I-5 on ramp still closed at Arena Boulevard.

A logging truck has overturned, spilling its load and diesel on the northbound Interstate 5 north of the Arena Boulevard exit.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 1:32 p.m. When the freeway will reopen is not known.

All northbound lanes were reportedly blocked by the wreckage and resulting diesel spill. No injuries were reported.

Traffic is being diverted through Natomas with motorists exiting at Arena Boulevard, driving north on East Commerce and reentering the freeway via Del Paso Road.

At 3 p.m. the resulting backup reached Highway 50, according to the CHP. Delays up to one hour expected.

The cause of the accident was not known at press time.
