coyote2City officials aren’t sure why coyote sightings seem be on the rise in Natomas recently, but point out that seeing wildlife in the community is not unusual.

Animal Control spokesperson Gina Knepp said human habits such as feeding pets outdoors, not picking up fallen fruit from trees and koi ponds attract wild animals such as raccoons, skunks and even coyotes.

But unless these animals are sick, injured or a threat to the public, Knepp said it’s just best to leave these wild animals alone.

“No. 1, stay away from them,” she said, adding these animals will look a little worse for wear than well-cared-for pets.

Knepp added, “They’re wild animals … They live a rough life.”
